If you have not lived under a rock for the last few years, you’ve seen the advertisements for the VoIP service provider Vonage has called, offering an area that, in addition to an Internet connection, you can to make unlimited long distance calls to U.S. and Canada for a low flat rate. There are competing VoIP providers like Skype (owned by eBay) with different pricing models. VoIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol, and digitally translates your voice into packets which are routed over the Internet, the same way an e-mail address is divided into packets and transmitted over the Internet.
